IE6 + Yahoo Toolbar = Tabbed Windows Explorer
Maybe I’m the last one to figure this out, but just in case I’m not, maybe you’ll find this interesting.
Problem: Windows Explorer does not offer tabs, so you end up with 4 or 5 separate windows explorers to view files such as c:\foo, d:\bar, and so on and so on.
Hack solution: The yahoo toolbar enables tabbed browsing in IE6, which is really just the same as the windows explorer. So, if you keep one of the tabs as a web page (i.e. your personal home page), you can add tabs and use them to browse the file system, eliminating the need of multiple windows explorers in your task bar.
It’s a little tricky sometimes to add new tabs. You might have to put the browser focus on the web page, then hit Ctrl+N. I suspect IE7 will be able to support tabbed windows explorer by default.
You can find the Yahoo toolbar here.
